Grey squirrel in a hanging basket eating a bulb

The control of grey squirrels is very important to both contain their spread into unvisited red only areas and to free habitat for the return of reds where they have been pushed out. The Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels project carries out grey control with its own officers and also with the help of landowners, gamekeepers and other members of the public.

From time to time it offers free training in the use of traps to those who are interested in in supporting the trapping effort on their own land. This training is carried out by the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (Scotland) and ensures that all people who borrow traps are trained and competent in their operation. To get involved or find out more please contact the SSRS Project Officer for Tayside.
